Welcome to DiDeb Kennels

My name is Debra DellaMonica, and I want to welcome you to the Dideb Schipperkes website.  My husband, Anthony DellaMonica, Jr. D.V.M., and I live in Madison, CT which is a sleepy little seaside town in southeastern CT.  Dideb Schipperkes began back in 1974 with the purchase of Eumors No-See-Um (“See-Um”). At that time, I lived at home with my parents as a teenager and was actively involved in showing and occasionally breeding Siberian Huskies under the same kennel name.
My father returned from a trip to a breeder’s in Long Island with not only one of the huskies, but also with this small, black, devil dog that had no fear of anyone or anything.  I became enamored with the breed after living with See-um for a year and we purchased a female from an established Schipperke breeder.  "Jackie" (Ch. GlenKays Powerflite of Dideb) became the foundation bitch for my kennel, and I have spent many years perfecting the temperaments and beauty of my dogs.  After showing these first two Schips, I realized that this was the breed for me.  I found the temperaments and behaviors to be very similar to the huskies but much easier to carry!!!  And so began my love affair with the breed.  I have concentrated on having fun-loving, outgoing, and spirited animals who can excel in any venue.
To me, the perfect Schipperke is one who barks when someone knocks on the door, but then happily greets the newcomers with a wagging butt and happy expression.   As pets, they can adapt to any situation and have a general love of people.  As performance dogs, their energy makes them go-go-go.  And finally, as show dogs, their love of people makes them great in the ring.  I have been blessed to have bred less than 25 litters but have had two very successful show dogs.  The first, Ch. Didebs Speedeau Dreux (“Speedy”), went on to become a Best in Specialty and All-breed Best in Show winner.  He had a long career in the show ring and was just as successful in the junior showmanship ring.  "Speedy" is the only Schipperke to have made it to the finals of Westminster Junior Show competition 4 years in a row with two different junior handlers.  (Two of those times placing 3rd and then 2nd.)  “Speedy” was instrumental in launching a successful professional career in dog show handling for his first "junior", Jessica Plourde.  (As a side note, Speedy had a sister who had multiple obedience titles as well.)

It truly is a team effort here...

Following in the foot steps of his daddy "Speedy", "Nicky" Ch Didebs Gotta Be Good went on to be a multi all breed Best In Show winning dog as well, handled by Jessica Plourde and Debbie Studwell.  Our philosophy of breeding quality animals will continue in the future and we have many promising youngsters here waiting for their time to come.

Our breeding program will continue to focus on healthy and attractive animals with fabulous temperments first and foremost.  In recent years my friendship with Debbie Studwell has become a team effort here and we have been co-breeding most of the present litters here at Dideb.  My husband Tony is my greatest support here and I truly could not do any of this without him.  In addition to his dedication to his busy veterinary career, he always finds time to be my "kennel boy" whenever he can.  He too is very proud of what we have been able to accomplish here at Dideb Schipperke.

It truly is a team effort here.  In recent years Debbie Studwell has done the majority of the showing being a very proficient handler.  It is her expert guidance that gets the dogs here looking their best and always showing in pristine condition.  Dideb Schipperkes welcomes visitors whenever possible.  If you are interested in this breed and would like to come meet them up close and personal, please do.  You truly cannot truly get to know this breed until you experience them.
